Small-Group Talk Strategies

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

In planning your lesson, you carefully crafted the perfect question. It's a deep, meaty, higher-level question that requires critical thinking. Then you ask this perfect question in class, but that one student (you know who it is) calls out the answer before you even finish asking the question.

How do you get EVERY student to answer that oh-so-strategic question? By getting your students talking to each other! In this presentation, we will model and discuss strategies and structures for small-group talk. This session is all about gathering information about student mastery during the lesson so that you can immediately make instructional adjustments to meet your students' ever-changing needs.

I'm excited to be presenting this topic at Mini-CAST 2016. I currently work as a Science Facilitator in Corsicana ISD. I taught high school chemistry for 8 years along with various other science subjects (middle school science, Biology, IPC, and Medical Microbiology/Pathophysiology). My science interests are as varied as my teaching experiences, but what I really enjoy is making difficult concepts easier for students to understand.
